6th June - Road Closures - Latest Information
Due to the apparently vitally important visit of Sarkozy and Obama,(with its ensuing circus of media who arent remotely intersted in covering the veterans ) the region around Omaha Beach and Port En Bessin is subject to road closures on the 6th June. Security will be very tight and our opinion is you are better off avoiding the area - trying to get through the cordon will be a waste of time. There are lots of other places to go - it appears that Utah will be unrestricted and open, as indeed will Arromanches and all to the East.
Road
Closure Details in French
Basically the region around Colleville Sur Mer - the US cemetery and Omaha Beach- will be a no go area from 9am -7pm -unless you have an acredited invitation or a pass because you live or work in the closed zone.
There will also be restrictions around Port En Bessin
Whilst they do have many benefits, sadly an IMPS or MVT membership card won't get you past the ring of Gendarmes.
Remember - If you value your freedom, don't thank a politician, thank a veteran.
