I bought this vehicle direct from MOD auctions in Ruddington in 1983. In the early nineties the Meteorite petrol engine was replaced by the Roll Royce Eagle diesel. Running at 50 tons gross it was returning 3 or 4 MPG. In the Noughties she was used to transport the REME Museum heavy A vehicles including the Conqueror ARV at nearly 60 tons. Gross train weight with the Crane Fruehauf girder trailer was over 100 tons. After owning it for around thirty years it was time for a full rebuild to deal with the rust and poor paintwork on the chassis and other places. Other than servicing and oil seal changes the major assemblies were not disturbed as they are proven assemblies having worked at over 100 tons gross for many hours. It is in fifth wheel configuration with a big double oscillating fifth wheel coupling. A proper ballast box frame is available but it needs to be rebuilt. It is thought to be the last Antar to run full freighted on UK roads or perhaps anywhere. It is intended that she will be on display at the Welland Steam rally at the end of July 2017. By that point she will have covered under two hundred miles since rebuild. It is being sold in order to thin out my collection as I am now 60 years old and need to slow down. Also available is the Scammell Contractor HBB775W and the Crane-Fruehauf girder trailer.
