For sale is this unique Mercedes -Benz four seat, pre-war factory cabriolet car which has been in barn storage in England since the late 1950’s and recently discovered.
Last registered in Germany ‘J 929 BZ’ which is a British Zone of Occupation of Germany - British Military Forces only registration (1955-1957) series. Documents found in the car to a British Army lieutenant in 2nd Royal Tank Regiment, BFPO 17 and Kent, England addresses dated 1957.
The Mercedes was discovered in Kent as an estate sale and is unrestored and in original condition.
Remains of Great Britain Union flag painted on left rear panel, and ‘The Bomb’ with a fused cannonball image and the word ‘Phizz!’ in English painted above spare wheel, both direct onto Wehrmacht grey.
Paint colours found are various shades of Green, two shades of sand, Brown, and German Grey – quite exceptional.
The interior has original leather seats with Green heavy canvas front footwell side trims and remains of factory carpet. Surviving the original hood rear window complete with glass and frames and hood bow trims intact. Remains of hood outer material are grey. Never converted to coal gas and the presence of a bespoke field made tow bar and engine under tray along with grey paint point to this being an ex-Wehrmacht car. The car is very complete with factory ID plate, factory commission number plate, Mercedes body ID plate and engine ID plate. Correct cabriolet chassis with matching numbers to original body. The chassis is sound, rock solid and straight with all suspension being straight and square.
Chassis is complete with all braking system, shock absorbers and central lubrication system etc. Four brand new tubes and tyres fitted to original Kronprinz wheels. Engine is complete with all ancillary parts, distributor, generator, stater motor and correct Solex carburettor and Knecht air filter.
Mercedes Benz archive identifies this car as delivered new in October 1937 to Dortmund, Germany.
Requiring complete restoration with the body having corrosion in usual areas. Rear floor and boot floor, sills and scuttle need replacement along with running boards. The W136 170v series is the best supported Mercedes Benz with every part available new and used from several excellent suppliers.
