In the 50’s several Cromwell tanks have been upgraded to a ‘Charioteer Tank’, or ‘FV4101 Tank, Medium Gun, Charioteer’. For this purpose, the original Cromwell turret was removed and a more powerful gun (20 Pdr.) installed in a relatively lightly armoured two-man new turret design. The Charioteer saw limited use with the British army but was used more extensively by overseas nations in Europe and the Middle East were it also saw action. Conversion was executed by Robinson and Kershaw Ltd. at their works in Dukinfield, Cheshire.
While an expected production run of 630 was indicated in 1951, the production was cut short.
The actual number produced is believed to be 442.
As we will reverse this process, we like to offer on behalf of our client the Charioteer Turret on the market.
Offers are welcome so if you are interested in this please let us know on short notice. Maybe we can settle a deal with you.
Turret will be partly striped from Cromwell parts which we require for the restoration.
We are still looking for a Cromwell turret and the Ordnance QF 75 mm gun so if you have a turret available and can help us with this please let us know! Delivery: ex works Nederweert the Netherlands.
